Two Cultures on the beach

Two Cultures: Tourists sunbathing under a thunderous sky as a Melasti procession passed by on Kuta Beach. Hindus all over Bali took part in the cleansing ritual that occurs prior to the Nyepi day of silence on Saturday, 5th March.

Nyepi Day - Bali's Silence Day
On March 5, 2011, Bali will enter the new year since 1933, which is called Nyepi and it is celebrated by total silence. There will be no light, no activities, no trips, and no sound and entertainment for 24 hours. If you are in Bali, please note the following dos and donts:

1. Silence begins starting 5 a.m. of March 5 for 24 hours.
2. The airport will be totally closed on March 5, so there will be neither arrival nor departure on that day. All connecting airports around the globe have been notified in advance.
3. If you travel by lsand, do not plan your arrival in Bali on March 5, there will be no activity at the bus terminal and most importantly there will be no traffic movement in the whole Bali island.
